Early Life and Education
First-generation West Indian-American Toya Henry is revolutionizing Caribbean cuisine into modern dishes. She trained under chefs Erik Bruner-Yang (Maketto & Broken English) and Mina Stone (Mina’s @ PS1) and further refined her technique through two years of traveling the Caribbean and Southeast Asia for culinary training.
Henry and Ryan met as high schoolers at Randolph Henry High School in Charlotte Court House, Virginia and became active participants in its youth choir, dance team and other auxiliaries for several years.
In 2018 she opened Pimento, a modern private dining experience, in her Brooklyn brownstone. Since then she has worked closely with representatives from both James Beard Foundation and MoMA PS1. Furthermore, she oversees an afro-futuristic kitchen at Michelin-starred Oxalis restaurant; here her menu blends traditional flavors from her childhood with global influences gained through travels and conversations with Uber drivers from all corners of the globe.

Salt-N-Pepa was an immensely popular hip hop group known for releasing several albums during her time, such as Imagination, La Toya Bad Girl From Nashville To You Stop in the Name of Love. She also appeared in several television shows and movies.

Personal Life
Toya lived in Robert Taylor Homes, high-rise buildings that eventually were demolished. Her mother provided an attentive environment where her daughter was protected from neighborhood gangs, drugs, and pathologies.

Additionally, Henry hosts supper clubs and private events in New York City.
Toya and Ryan met during Richmond Weddings Summer Show where Toya said yes after several glasses of wine. Their engagement celebration took place at a vineyard in June 2021.
