Steve Mattson – An Artist Who Redefined What Was Possible With Art
Mattson made a name for himself creating matte paintings for award-winning movies, continually pushing artistic limits.
As a Democrat, he received the town committee’s support to run for his third term as first selectman of Lyme. During his time here he has helped to maintain stable mill rates for residents.
Early Life and Education
Steven Mattson was raised Catholic after having previously practiced evangelical Protestantism.
Since 1991, Mr. White has been employed in health care. His expertise includes working to enhance quality, patient satisfaction, process improvement and facility design; in addition, he also collaborates with clients to connect quality with cost, helping them realize their goals.
He holds board certification in both internal medicine and pediatrics, as well as being qualified to administer Department of Transportation physicals for commercial drivers. With four grandchildren to his credit and an extensive family and friend network, Dr. Paul lives with his wife Martha in Stony Creek, NY; together they own an idyllic old logger’s camp in the Southern Adirondack Mountains that serves as their vacation and weekend retreat spot.
Professional Career
Steve Mattson was previously Senior Director of Quality Improvement and Care Innovation for an integrated health system. An early adopter of Toyota Production System principles within health care, Steve led numerous Kaizen and 3P teams throughout hospitals and clinics throughout his tenure.
He worked as a municipal bond credit analyst and partner of Northland Securities in Minneapolis, helping cities and local governments raise money through bond issues. A lifelong fan of Minnesota sports teams, he also enjoyed playing poker.
He is the son of Roy and Else Lindgren Mattson and was married for more than 50 years to Martha; together they raised two children and four grandchildren. Additionally, he was a longstanding member of Cokato Lutheran Church.
Achievement and Honors
Steve Mattson is an internationally acclaimed artist. His matte paintings can be found in award-winning Hollywood movies like Life of Pi, Surfs Up, Polar Express, Star Wars EP3 Beowulf Chronicles of Narnia as well as others. Additionally, he made history when he created the world’s first moving painting ever seen before – an extraordinary achievement which redefines what’s possible!
Bryce’s father reports that this season has seen him make quite an impressionful statement throughout the Central Coast Section with his athleticism and improved technical abilities. Haybalers coach Steven Salcedo acknowledges Bryce’s boldness when taking on new challenges.
Mattson holds a 3.76 GPA as a packaging major and participates in numerous community outreach efforts such as student-athlete food drive, Team for Toys drive and adaptive Sled Hockey clinic. She was honored with NMU’s 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award this year.
Personal Life
Steve and Martha purchased an isolated old logger’s camp in Stony Creek, NY located within the southern Adirondack mountains. Here they enjoyed hosting friends and family alike on their property. Steve loved hard work and enjoyed playing badminton, skiing and backpacking – while occasionally even serenading Martha with an acapella love song!
Mattson was an active member of Cokato community who contributed to various local causes large and small, from donations to arts groups to paying for Alzheimer’s care of a man he knew personally. His generosity will remain remembered through generations to come by his wife Martha; children Steven Roy Deborah; granddaughter Sarah; avid poker player; and fan of Minnesota sports teams.

Additionally, he created Michelle Skelton Social Science Missions Endowment Fund which supports students engaging in intercultural missions.

Mattson holds a Bachelor’s Degree from High Point University in North Carolina, and plays an integral part of Kurt’s team by developing client relationships, planning meetings, updating records and providing general customer service. She also holds Series 7, 63 and 66 securities registrations along with life and health insurance licenses.
