Oregon State began his career at Oregon State in the Radiation Safety Office before transitioning into Radiation Center Director in 1998. Now as Director of Oregon State’s 1.1 megawatt reactor facility, he oversees faculty and student research, while assuring all safety measures are adhered to.
He regards his greatest achievement as expanding utilization of the facility. Scientists from various fields use it to study everything from pottery shards and arrowheads to concrete cracks.
Steve faced life’s challenges with an infectious laughter. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, motorsports, car shows, camping and fishing; writing (he had several books published); as well as being an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
