One of the other members of the group, Perrie Edwards, left the group. This was followed by former member Jesy Nelson, who quit after a controversy arose over her appropriation of black culture and religion. Her departure caused some fans to believe that she had secretly quit the group. As a result, she was not seen at the upcoming final of BBC talent show The Search, nor did she appear at the MTV EMAs.
While all of the members of the group are not currently on tour, they have announced that they will be taking a break from the music scene in 2020. Fans were concerned about how this would affect their career.
