Liam Flanagan was like any other eight-year-old boy: riding his bike, eating molasses cookies after school and roughhousing with his three stepbrothers. But after crashing his bike on their Spring Creek property and suffering an accident that saw a piece of handlebar cut through his jeans resulting in infection caused by flesh-eating bacteria, everything changed drastically requiring four major surgeries to remove the infection and heal his wound.
Professional Career
Liam Flanagan seemed like any typical eight-year-old boy, enjoying eating molasses cookies and roughhousing with his three stepbrothers on their family farm in Pendleton, Oregon. He particularly enjoyed wearing camo clothing and feeding the animals on the ranch. But Liam’s world soon took an unexpected turn when his stepbrothers died unexpectedly from cancer in 2014.
He had fallen off his bike the Saturday before and cut himself on a sharp piece of metal, cutting himself in the process. Though his wound wouldn’t normally have caused too many issues had he not fallen onto it improperly; then flesh-eating bacteria crept in and began attacking soft tissue surrounding his groin area.
On January 21 at Randall’s Children Hospital in Portland, he passed away shortly before reaching his ninth birthday. His mother, Sara Hebard, described her son as the love of her life.

Personal Life
Liam Flanagan seemed like any typical 8-year-old boy: riding his bike and indulging in after-school snacks of molasses cookies before roughhousing with his three stepbrothers on their farm in Pendleton, Oregon. He loved wearing camo clothing and feeding animals — truly becoming everyone’s “little hero.”
On a Saturday, Pilot Rock second-grader Brandon Hebard fell from his bike and severed his thigh open, prompting his mom Sara Hebard to notice blood seeping from the wound and contact an ambulance service. Within hours, flesh-eating bacteria from soil entered through his cut wound, attacking soft tissues of his body quickly; doctors in Pendleton and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland amputated portions of his body as they battled to save him before finally succumbing to their efforts eight days later on January 21, 2016.
