John Shehata is the Executive Director of Search & Social Media for ABC News and TV Shows. He has trained many writers, journalists and editors on SEO strategies for news stories.
He has been in the digital marketing space for over 23 years. Prior to joining ABC, he managed the SEO & Social Media strategies for 12 local news Web sites affiliated with over 35 newspapers.
Early Life and Education
John Shehata was born and raised in Cairo, Egypt. At the tender age of 10, Shehata and his family moved to the United States to avoid religious persecution. He graduated from Lynbrook High School in 2013. Shehata has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of California Santa Barbara. He is currently a law student at California Western School of Law. He has a 3.25 GPA and is an active member of the Phi Beta Kappa honors fraternity.
During his career, John Shehata has worked in a variety of industries. He currently works as an advisor consultant at Lord Abbett, a firm that offers investment management services to clients around the world. Shehata credits his college education for helping him achieve this position, as it enabled him to develop professional connections and gain valuable experience in his field.
He is also co-founder of the News and Editorial SEO Summit (NESS), an online conference that focuses on news SEO. NESS was created by Shehata and Barry Adams, who saw a need for a community that would unite news publishers to share knowledge about their SEO efforts. Attendees can learn from leading experts in the field, and the conference is presented as an online event so that it is affordable for people from all over the world to attend.

John Shehata is a seasoned marketing executive with over 24 years of experience in digital marketing. He is the Global Vice President of Audience Development Strategy & Partnerships at Conde Nast overseeing SEO, Social Media Strategy and Audio Growth for all the Conde Nast global brands (Wired, Epicurious, Vanity Fair, Vogue, The New Yorker, GQ, etc.).
He has trained many Advance Publications newspapers, writers and editors on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and how to write news stories while keeping SEO top of mind. He also teaches at several conferences around the country which focus on SEO for news and online classifieds. He has also written multiple articles on Search Engine Marketing and continues to speak at various events. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors.
