John Petrovic received his formal education at a Quaker boarding school, where he learned science, mathematics and Latin. An avid inventor, John made several notable breakthroughs in his field including developing the first hydraulic computer capable of solving ordinary differential equations.
He was also a musician, publicist, businessman and fisherman – an individual of many talents whose contributions to Serbian education were many and far reaching.
He was so influential in mathematics that it is believed he founded a school with his name and curriculum still standing today. Additionally, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Belgrade in 1939 for his work on differential equations, which remains popular today. What’s more, he did so efficiently!

John Petrovic is remembered as a pioneer of European basketball who made it big in the NBA. As one of the greatest shooters in the league, with an incredibly quick release, John became a household name.
He was selected 60th overall in 1986 and went on to play for the Trail Blazers. Known for his impressive work ethic and fiery on-court personality, he quickly earned a following among NBA fans.
While playing for Cibona in the Yugoslav First Federal League, he won two Yugoslav National Cup titles consecutively. Additionally, he competed in numerous Pan-European club competitions.

Drazen Petrovic was an early international player to break into the NBA and set a precedent for other European basketball greats. Although his career only lasted four years, Drazen’s legacy remains strong within the league today.
In 1991, he captained the New Jersey Nets to their first playoff appearance and earned them a place on the All-NBA third team that year.
He was also a member of the Portland Trail Blazers, scoring 257 points in 90 games during his NBA career.
He played for Cibona Zagreb of the Yugoslav FFL from 1984 to 1988 and Real Madrid of the Spanish League from 1989 to 1990. Additionally, he won a European-wide secondary level FIBA European Cup Winners Cup with Cibona in 1986.
