Early Life and Education

John Kohan was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA to Peter and Mary (Grohol) Kohan.

He was raised in the Georgetown section of Wilkes-Barre Township, PA and was a member of Saint John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church. Tragically, on Monday, August 5th 2001 he passed away.

On Friday, September 1, 2011 his funeral services will be held at Holy Assumption of the Virgin Mary Byzantine Catholic Cemetery.

After graduating college, he worked as a reporter for Time Magazine in Russia. It was during this period that he developed an interest in icons found in churches; this eventually led him on pilgrimage to rediscover their beauty and significance.
