XL Group Appoints John Goodloe As President of E&S

XL Group has hired industry veteran John Goodloe as president of its excess and surplus (E&S) operation. He is the former chief underwriting officer of brokerage at Ategrity Specialty Insurance Co.

Pierson was born on February 15, 1795 in Person County, North Carolina. He moved with his parents to western Kentucky in 1805, where he became a pioneer and land developer.

Early Life and Education

John Goodloe was born in Boyle County, Kentucky. He attended school in Danville and graduated from Allegheny College in 1906.

After completing his education, he worked as a teacher at Danville (Kentucky) Industrial Normal School and as a businessman. He was active in the Black Business Association and the Union Order of United Colored Males.

He was also a member of the Bowie School board from 1911 to 1918, and served as president of the board in 1917. He firmly believed that agricultural training and industrial instruction were vital to the success of African American students.

He wrote several books and pamphlets on a wide variety of topics, including slavery, emancipation, and federal government. His most influential pamphlet, Emancipation and the War (1861), advocated compensation for emancipated slaves in order to prevent civil war.

After the war, he became a free-lance writer and habitue of the Library of Congress. He also published a series of feature articles in newspapers describing events and personalities from antebellum and wartime Washington. He also compiled a book, The Birth of the Republic: Compiled from the National and Colonial Histories.
