Early Life and Education
People often think that real learning begins once children enter school, but a growing body of research shows that children learn far more between birth and age 6 than people realize. Early childhood educators, such as child care workers and preschool teachers, were among those affected by the flu. Their jobs require a great deal of emotional labor and high levels of stress; during the pandemic these educators experienced degraded working conditions, job uncertainty and mental health declines that compromised their capacity to provide quality care to young children.
