John Egger is a world-renowned saxophonist and one of the most famous musicians in the United States. He is a member of the renowned Jazz Hall of Fame. In fact, he has received many awards, honors and accolades, including a Grammy Award and the title of “Best Male Saxophonist” from the National Association of Recording Industry Professionals.
Early Life and Education
John Egger’s early life and education were influenced by his parents, who were both teachers at the local United States Naval Academy. His mother was Greek, and she forbade her son to display any memorabilia of Nazi Germany.
In the early 1940s, Egger lived in the Rapid Creek area of Palisade. He later moved to Fruita.
He attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. When he finished his undergraduate studies, he went on to get a journalism degree. After that, he moved to Berkeley, California.
As a teenager, Egger had an interest in the military. During his high school years, he learned about the Vietnam War from his high school newspapers. This interest stayed with him, and he later enlisted in the Marine Corps.
Professional Career
John Egger’s professional career was a multi-faceted affair. He had a stint at the Boston Stock Exchange, he owned a grocery store, he helped found the Naytahwaush Community Charter School on White Earth Nation, he was an active member of the Lions Club and he was a hip and knee specialist.
John was also a big fan of the food truck phenomenon. While working at Safeway he became friends with a former co-worker, Lynn Yturiaga. As a result, he was able to take the helm of one of the most successful food trucks in California, EZ Mart, in Sonora.
John has been an advocate for high school graduation rates and has made it his mission to promote the same. The Tuolumne County Women’s Network organized a benefit dinner in Columbia to help fund the cause. In addition to his efforts in local government, John is also a committed advocate for the Native American community.

John Egger was a talented artist. Aside from his art, he was also a World War II history buff. His uncle was captured by the Germans during WWII. He is survived by his wife, his sister-in-law, his son, and his nephew.
He worked for a number of different firms, including Price Waterhouse, General Accounting Office, and the IRS. As his career went on, he became a CPA. In addition, he served as the Commissioner of Internal Revenue from 1981 to 1986.
