Early Life and Education
Los Gatos High School sophomore Jaylen Thomas truly deserves the title “Swiss Army Knife and Versatile”. In 2016, this Wildcats standout performed as quarterback, wide receiver, safety as well as punt and kick returner – an impressive accomplishment at any level of competition.
He has an incredible sense of his position and is fluid and controlled when blocking. He knows when to switch up between straight arm or reach block style blocking, as well as being focused on remaining square when responding to blocks.

Thomas was a four-year starter on all five offensive line positions for SMU. He earned All-AAC first team recognition and an invite to the Senior Bowl, in 2022. Thomas excels at pass protection skills with only six pressures and zero QB hits in his career.
He’s an effective blocker in space and moves swiftly up the second level, using his knees to bend back and leverage against defenders attempting to pass him by.
He possesses the versatility to play both tackle and guard positions. A talented athlete, he possesses great potential as a starter at the next level. Additionally, his zone-blocking schemes fit well within NFL playbooks while being an effective ball carrier who can run with it effectively.
Achievement and Honors
Thomas hails from an athletic family; both his father, who played football at San Jose State, and mother who plays softball for them both also play softball there; Thomas’ older sisters all enjoy softball as a hobby as well. Thomas possesses the innate ability to catch balls quickly and find open spaces when needed.
As long as he remains in good standing and works hard on the field, he’ll remain loyal to any coach, like CSU’s new head coach Mike Norvell.
He’s been an integral player for the Rams this season in their run-heavy offense, playing an integral part in their blowout win against Air Force last weekend. A multifaceted talent, he can also serve as a wide receiver, safety, punt returner and special teams player – plus even has some talent on special teams itself!

Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week. He earned this recognition after posting 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting and six rebounds during a third game during this week. After missing three contests due to chest pain, he returned strong with an outstanding performance in scoring his career-high 22.
As per Akeem Glaspie of Indy Star Sports, Butler will likely replace Ali Ali in their starting lineup on Tuesday. His return could help him earn 30+ minutes for several more games this season.
