First Lady Janet Daniels

Janet Block Daniels was an enthusiastic traveler and gardener. Together with her husband, they often traveled throughout the U.S. visiting all 50 states along with various national parks, monuments, and other places of interest.

Daniels earned her place on the 2023 WNIT All-Tournament Team after appearing in 17 games for the Bears and scoring double figures eight times; she was an excellent rebounder as well, shooting 42.8 percent from the field.

Daniels Building & Construction, Inc is owned and managed solely by her. Under her direction, notable landmarks throughout Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana such as Ford Arena, Christus Bone & Joint and Lumberton FEMA Dome have been constructed.

Debra also serves as a science mission specialist with the CERES spacecraft, responsible for instrument command and control and science data processing. She has made contributions to numerous scientific publications; one paper she co-authored addressed continuity of Earth radiation budget observations on NOAA-20 satellite.

Achievement and Honors

Daniels has accomplished much throughout her life. She has published many papers and presented at national conferences. Additionally, she co-founded and serves on the Board of Association for Non-Traditional Students in Higher Education; has hosted credit and non-credit seminars; as well as written course curricula.

Her most satisfying achievements lie in helping veterans. As a volunteer for Disabled American Veterans (DAV), she’s dedicated herself to assisting others understand the benefits they’re entitled to receive.

Silvestri, master of ceremonies for the event, donned special retro Air Jordans similar to those released in the 1980s as a nod to Daniels as one of UB’s best-known graduates and an inspiration to current students.
