Jack Stephenson dreamed of becoming a cowboy from the time he was growing up in Cotulla and spent summers rope roping alongside National Finals Rodeo (NFRF) cowboys such as Phil Lyne.

Warmlite revolutionized outdoor gear through lightweight materials, aerodynamic shapes, and an innovative product design process. He was an early supporter of nature-based climate strategies.

Early Life and Education

He was raised in a family that was deeply committed to church. This gave him a solid foundation of faith which ultimately proved fruitful in his life.

Stephenson owned several coal mines and businesses besides railways, such as lime works and colliery steam engine companies. Additionally, he supported mechanics’ institutes that helped apprentices receive proper training.

He was well known for his sense of humor and ability to assess a man by the shape of their hat, loving people without exception and never meeting a stranger. With an unique language all his own, he could engage in conversations with anyone. Additionally, he was an experienced horse trainer and rodeo cowboy as well as founding Cactus Ropes with cousin Joe Mathews and Mike Piland that is still going strong today.

Professional Career

Stephenson has extensive experience representing companies in numerous transactions, such as acquisitions of nursing homes and their financing arrangements, as well as handling complex matters pertaining to corporate and securities law.

Henrichson Feed Yards of Artesia Wells, Texas were his place of employment. Additionally, he taught a men’s bible class at First United Methodist Church Cherryville as part of their membership and also served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II.

He is one of the founding partners of The Copernicus Project, a technology startup dedicated to rapidly scaling nature-based climate solutions. Their easy-to-use tools equip communities to fight global warming while improving long-term ecological health in their home communities. He also serves as an active board member of both Pacific Forest Trust and Jaris.

Jack is a founding fellow of the American College of LLC and Partnership Attorneys, an invitation-only organization of lawyers, judges, and professors who stand out through significant work relating to limited liability companies (LLC), partnerships (LP), or unincorporated entities such as unincorporated trusts (UT). He has represented clients in acquisition/divestiture transactions of nursing homes as well as restructuring business structures across multiple entities or other transactions with complex financing arrangements.

He was a beloved father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. An avid sports fan, he could often be heard cheering from the sidelines.

In 2020, he led a nature-based climate strategy project for the Wildlife Conservation Society and found much of what policymakers believed they knew about climate change was inaccurate – this project received the Artichoke Design Communication Prize as well.

Jack Stephenson has extensive experience representing both public and private businesses in financing and acquisition transactions. This includes securities regulation, corporate and partnership taxation issues, mergers & acquisitions as well as real estate development & financing transactions.

He grew up in Cotulla and spent his summers working cattle for some of the area’s premier ranchers, helping solidify his desire to become a cowboy. Competing on the high school rodeo circuit he found great success calf roping, team roping and bull riding.

In 1962, Jack married Marjorie “Modie” Eileen Williams from high school. Together they would go on to have two daughters named Lori and Leslie Robb. Later they relocated to California where Jack ran Henrichson Feed Yards as well as being active within his church community and family life.
