Jack Roddy

Jack Roddy is a cattle rancher and businessman who has spent most of his career competing in rodeo events. Additionally, he is active within his community by aiding families who need assistance.

He won the collegiate all-around world cowboy title in 1959 and two steer wrestling championships at the National Finals Rodeo (1966 and 1968). Additionally, he managed bars and ranches. Additionally, he served on the Board of Rodeo Cowboy Association.

Early Life and Education

Roddy grew up in Colma, California and first started participating in rodeo events as a child. By 1959 he had won both an intercollegiate all-around title as well as two world championship titles for steer wrestling – and was eventually elected President of his college rodeo team.

After leaving the arena, he invested in various business ventures such as bars and ranches; partnered with a rodeo stock company; continued roping/ranching; etc.

He and Donna have made Antioch their home for many years and continue to contribute through charitable work and hosting fundraising barbeques at their ranch for organizations such as Delta Advocacy Foundation he helped establish. Although they will soon leave for Texas, they say that Antioch will remain better because of them.

Professional Career

Jack Antonoff has been an integral part of multiple award winning projects and received multiple Grammy award nominations throughout his career in music with bands such as fun. As a producer he has collaborated with artists such as Carly Rae Jepsen, Taylor Swift, Sara Bareilles Lorde Lana Del Rey and St Vincent among others.

He was an ardent supporter of his community and served Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, serving on committees that focused on youth and sports programs. Additionally, he was an exceptional entrepreneur and businessman who ran bars in San Francisco while owning multiple cattle ranches as well as being two-time world champion of steer wrestling.

Jack Roddy was a world champion in multiple rodeo events including Steer Wrestling. In addition to serving on the PRCA Board for 16 years and being inducted into both the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame and National Cowboy Hall of Fame, he was an active philanthropist supporting youth sports programs in Bloomington where he lived; an active member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church with whom he participated regularly in early morning men’s prayer group meetings; an inductee into both these halls of Fame;

Even with all of his arena crashes and broken bones, Jack always showed love and respect to everyone around him. He enjoyed traveling with Phyllis, Roxanne, David, and Jay; also enjoying spring and fall fishing trips to Nestor Falls with them.

Personal Life

Jack Roddy was born in San Francisco on October 3rd 1937 and grew up on his family ranch near Colma California riding and roping alongside his father’s friends involved in rodeoing. By 14 he had competed in his first RCA rodeo, winning $90 in its Wild Horse Race competition. Later he went onto win Intercollegiate World Champion Cowboy honors at college rodeoing events.

Once retired from competition, he served on the Rodeo Cowboy Association board for 16 years – also acting as mentor and guide to up and coming rodeo stars.

He has participated in various charitable events and is a strong supporter of the Delta Advocacy Foundation. Together with his wife Donna he lives in Brentwood, California and they have several grandchildren including Greta Schimming, Karla Mettling and Anne Hof.
