George Story

George Story – Author of My Side of the Mountain

George, a charming fourth-grade girl, struggles with her gender identity. She keeps a secret stash of girls’ magazines hidden from her parents and older brother to cope.

She must also contend with a bullying bully at school who teases her and an unfulfilling play. I hope this book finds its way into the hands of children struggling with their identity.

Early Life and Education

George was born to Augustine Washington and Mary Ball on February 22, 1732. As a child, the family moved several times before settling at Ferry Farm near Fredericksburg, Virginia.

The large family was closely knit and they maintained a close bond throughout their lives. This bond would become important in molding George Washington into the national leader and military commander that we know today.

At seventeen, George leveraged his family connections to secure an appointment as surveyor for Culpeper County in Virginia’s frontier region. This position provided him with adventure, a steady income, and the chance to view and purchase unclaimed land.

Professional Career

George had an outstanding professional football career. He earned three times All-American status and won the Heisman Trophy.

He earned his stripes playing running back for the Titans in 1998, helping them to the AFC Central title. Additionally, he earned a trip to the Pro Bowl that year.

In his final season with the Titans, he rushed for over 1,000 yards and scored several touchdowns on the ground.

He was an acclaimed and talented player, yet he suffered from what is commonly referred to as “The Heisman curse,” in which many players who win the Heisman trophy fail to reach professional success.

Achievements and Honors

His career also encompassed a long and successful musical career, as well as numerous awards for his performances. In 2012 he was honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and is widely credited with helping to raise country music’s profile.

On Tuesday, PEN America recognized his literary accomplishments with a prestigious citation. The organization, which sponsors privately endowed programs to recognize the best writing and literature, rewards those who embody values such as creativity, conviction, dedication, scholarship and exuberance.

Personal Life

George is a daring fourth grader who believes she’s female despite being born inside a boy’s body. To keep her mother and brother from finding out about it, George keeps an assortment of girls’ magazines hidden away from sight; otherwise she must endure constant taunting from boys in her class.

Nevertheless, she strives to find some peace with herself and support her best friend Kelly who is also experiencing difficulties. When they hear that their school will perform Charlotte’s Web, Charlotte sets her sights on playing the titular role.

She devises a plan to prove she’s really female, allowing her true self to be revealed to the world for all eternity. It’s an endearing story that will provide comfort to kids who may not understand what being transgender means that they aren’t alone and there are other Georges just like them out there.
