Early Life and Education

Early childhood education (ECE) refers to both formal and informal educational programs that shape children’s growth and development before they enter kindergarten. These experiences are essential for helping children reach cognitive and social-emotional maturity.

Research demonstrates the positive effects of quality early childhood education (ECE), including higher educational attainment, improved health and social well-being, as well as lower risks for crime and substance abuse. Unfortunately, millions of children around the world still do not attend such programs.

Many great minds have contributed to the modern conception of early childhood education and care, from Friedrich Froebel (credited with founding kindergarten) to Erikson, who believed psychosocial development must go hand-in-hand with successful early education curriculums. By supporting children at each psychosocial stage, educators and parents alike are helping ensure a lifetime of learning for their children.
