He has earned the distinction of 2016 Mitchell Scholar from York High School and serves as Student Listener at York Middle School. Furthermore, he is actively involved in his community by volunteering weekly at York Public Library throughout his high school career.

Personal Life

George Bickerstaff was a self-taught artist who lived an eclectic life before settling in California in 1922. He created beautiful oil paintings of mountain and desert scenes, featuring eucalyptus trees and rolling hills of wildflowers native to California.

His paintings often sold well, and he had the knack of marketing himself. In addition to seascapes and still lives, he painted western and Indian scenes as well.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with so many callings within the church that it would be impossible to list them all. But his greatest passion lay in spreading the gospel.

On October 31, 2009 in Whitianga, New Zealand he suffered a heart attack while waiting for an All Blacks game to start. Survived by his wife and 17 children plus one grandchild, he will be greatly missed.
