George Ballance is an American politician and former member of the United States House of Representatives from North Carolina.

He was born on February 15, 1942 in Windsor, NC to Frank Winston Ballance and Alice Eason Ballance.

As a young boy, George developed an interest in sports. He excelled as both a football and baseball player. Later on, George developed into an activist for the Black Lives Matter movement and is currently an advocate for this cause.

George Ballance is a certified Dalcroze Eurhythmics teacher. He has conducted workshops for professional musicians, graduate and undergraduate performance majors, professors of music education, as well as general education students.

He is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, having studied cello with Richard Aaron and Desmond Hoebig. Additionally, he has taken lessons on viola from Jeffrey Irvine and Katherine Lewis as well as viola da gamba from Janet Winzenburger.

He began doctoral study at Eastman School of Music in 2005 and worked under Alan Harris and Steven Laitz. When the senior linebacker at Cox High had to make his college decision, he followed his heart. Virginia Tech won out and on national signing day he announced his commitment to the school.

Ballance was a prominent figure in New Zealand politics, serving as its 14th premier from January 1891 until April 1893. He founded the Liberal Party (New Zealand’s first organized political party) and was an enthusiastic Georgist. Under Ballance’s guidance, votes for women and land reform were promoted at considerable cost to Maori communities.
