Early Life and Education

David Tobenkin hails from New York and attended the University of Michigan. Today he works as a freelance journalist in Bethesda, Maryland specializing in business, technology, law, policy and diplomacy issues related to law, diplomacy and careers/benefits issues. An Institute for Citizens & Scholars Higher Education Media Fellow as well as an ECMC Foundation grantee studying higher education issues; WIRED magazine published him extensively as did Los Angeles Times/Jersey Post as well as many other publications including WIRED/Hechinger Report/Los Angeles Times/Jerusalem Post among many other publications – award winners of Paul Tobenkin Memorial Award/Mike Berger Award both awarded with Who Shared Wrong bylines allowing anyone else.

Professional Career

David Tobenkin is a freelance journalist and researcher specializing in business, technology, law, policy, diplomacy, careers, benefits and international education issues. His articles have appeared in WIRED, Hechinger Report, The 74 and Trustship among many other publications; he holds fellowships from Institute for Citizens & Scholars Higher Education Media Fellow and ECMC Foundation grantee organizations; his bachelor’s degree is in economics from California State University at Chico while his master’s is in Public Administration from University of Southern California while also holding an ABET Certificate Certificate for Adult and Career Education from California State University at Chapel Hill pursuing doctorate in higher education a doctorate degree in Higher Ed Research

Achievement and Honors

David Tobenkin is a freelance journalist and an Institute for Citizens & Scholars Higher Education Media Fellow based out of Washington D.C. He has experience writing for The New York Times, The Daily News, the Associated Press and ProPublica among others. He has received many prestigious awards, such as Columbia Journalism School’s Tobenkin Award and Scripps Howard Impact Award, for his work combatting religious intolerance, racism, and discrimination. He has covered human interest issues such as sexual assault in rural Alaska and public safety services for ProPublica Local Reporting Network and has covered stories across the country. In addition, he holds a Master of Arts in Journalism degree from Columbia Journalism School.
