David Shuman was born on October 6, 1947 in Charleston, West Virginia and received his education at West Virginia University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1969.

He earned his Juris Doctor in 1972 and went on to serve as Professor of Law at the University of Oregon, teaching constitutional law, criminal procedure and legislation.

He was an devoted public servant, educator and husband/father. In addition to his other interests such as traveling, gardening and cooking, he enjoyed riding his bicycle for exercise and pleasure – until tragically being injured in a bicycle accident on October 8, 2018.

David Shuman has been practicing law since 1972 and is a nationally-recognized attorney. A member of both the West Virginia Bar and American Bar Association, his expertise is well-documented in court cases across the country.

As a lawyer, he defends medical malpractice cases. Additionally, he handles professional liability matters and other types of legal claims.

He has earned the respect of his peers with Super Lawyers recognition and is an AV Preeminent lawyer with Martindale-Hubbell.

David Shuman was an esteemed scholar, educator and judge. He served as a longtime professor at the University of Oregon and former justice on Oregon’s Court of Appeals.

He served two six-year terms as deputy attorney general of Oregon, according to a biography on the UO website. Following that appointment, he returned to teaching classes.

He was an accomplished academic and mentored many young lawyers in the process. Furthermore, he had a kind and generous heart; especially towards his children and grandchildren.

David Shuman leads an active life outside of music. He’s the bassist for Queens of the Stone Age and co-leads Mini Mansions with his partner Adam Krause.

He has a passion for technology and works as a computer engineer. When not playing games with his kids, cooking or traveling, you’ll find him at home in Florida!

He enjoys a wonderful family, and is the proud papa of three children.
