David Mariner is a Certified Financial Planner(tm) professional who has assisted individuals in reaching their major life objectives. Additionally, he has dedicated over fifteen years to serving LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS service organizations in Washington, DC.

In 2019, David Mariner joined CAMP Rehoboth as Executive Director, succeeding founding director Steve Elkins who passed away in March 2018. Drawing upon his public policy and advocacy experience, he will help CAMP Rehoboth meet the needs of its most vulnerable community members.

Early Life and Education

The European Enlightenment left behind a legacy of early childhood education beliefs and theories that still influence today. Pioneers such as John Amos Comenius, John Locke, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Friedrich Froebel, and Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi laid the philosophical foundations for what we now know as early childhood education.

Maria Montessori traveled the globe to spread her teaching techniques and understanding of natural child development. Her work had a significant impact on early childhood educators’ thinking about learning in children and also had an impact on psychosocial development theory, including ways teachers and parents can assist children identify goals, challenges, and concerns throughout different stages of their lives.

Professional Career

David Mariner was an all-around professional throughout his career. A world class player, coach and analyst on the field as well as a pioneering force in social justice issues and human rights advocacy were his hallmark attributes.

He was a Chartered Financial Consultant and Chartered Life Underwriter(r), helping ensure the delivery of quality retirement planning services to his clients. Additionally, he offered advice on various mergers and acquisitions-related matters.

David Sims, a veteran broadcaster, joined the Mariners radio team in 2007. He calls most spring training and regular season games for the Mariners Radio Network and is well known to baseball fans for calling MLB and college basketball play-by-play on ESPN. Additionally, he has called NFL play-by-play on Westwood One/CBS Radio Sports including NFC playoff games.

Achievement and Honors

David Mariner is the successful executive director of The DC Center for LGBT Community. In his tenure there, the organization has grown to serve nearly half a million members through an array of programs.

His accomplishments range from marriage equality and HIV prevention, to advocating for homeless LGBTQ youth and peer-led support groups. Additionally, he devotes time to serving the LGBTQ military and first responders in Washington, DC area.

He has been recognized for his dedication to the community by receiving numerous awards and honors, including being named as a member of the SS Beaver Award given annually by MMBC. Additionally, he was a finalist for both 2014 and 2016 Mariner Awards.

Personal Life

David Mariner is a certified financial planner who offers wealth planning solutions for high-net-worth individuals, families and business owners. His customized plans incorporate tax and estate planning, insurance solutions and retirement strategies with the goal of meeting clients’ long-term objectives.

He is also the co-founder of Mariner Wealth Advisors, an independent advisory firm based in Washington, D.C. He works closely with clients to help them reach their personal and business objectives.

David was the former executive director of The DC Center for the LGBT Community, an organization which educates, empowers and celebrates this community throughout DC. He’s departing to take up a similar role at CAMP Rehoboth in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware after more than ten years at its helm. Recently David spoke to Washington Blade about his accomplishments during this time at The DC Center.
