David Leger

David was the fifth of William and Laura (Wright) Leger’s six children.

He attended Live Oak High School in Salina before embarking on a long and distinguished military aviation career, serving in multiple overseas deployments and training exercises.

David met Jettie Adams from Kentucky while on military assignment in Belize and they later married. Jettie appreciated David’s dedication to family, honor, and integrity – qualities she valued highly in him. Jettie appreciated how easily David just got down to business and completed any given task without issue or interruption from others.

Early Life and Education

Leger perfected his Cubist vocabulary during the early 1900s among a group of avant-garde artists and writers, such as Alexandre Archipenko, Robert Delaunay and Jacques Lipchitz painters; Guillaume Apollinaire and Blaise Cendrars writers; as well as Albert Gleizes and Jean Metzinger sculptors.

Through his entire career, Leger was dedicated to portraying a world accessible to all – an interest inspired by his experiences as both soldier and civilian worker on the front lines during World War I.

As an educator, Leger inspired his students to read diverse literature and to compose original stories of their own. Additionally, he wanted his pupils to recognize themselves in both the novels they read and their authors.

Professional Career

David Leger has been active in several sports throughout his professional life. He played on a semi-pro team, served as a professional referee and served as coach at a college level.

Beginning his coaching career with the Hawkesbury Hawks of the Canadian Junior Hockey League in 1998-99 and becoming Head Coach midway through that season. Later he held that same role with University of Ottawa Gee-Gees from 2003-2011.

He has also had international coaching experience in Asia and Hungary, spending one season each in Japan for Tohoku Free Blades and Dunaujvarosi Acelbikak before recently coaching Cumberland Grads of the Central Canadian Hockey League 2015-16.

Achievement and Honors

David was a proud military aviation veteran and received several prestigious honors during his distinguished military career, such as the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medals (Good Conduct, Achievement and Commendation), Armed Force Expeditionary Medal (E), Armed Force Expeditionary Badge.

His leadership career spanned over 11 years with various honors: aviation unit maintenance platoon leader, company operations officer, commander of Company D of 135th Aviation Regiment; commander of Company D from 1st Battalion of 108th Aviation Regiment; 1-108th Aviation Logistics Officer; 35th Division Aviation Officer; 1-108th Aviation Battalion Executive Officer and facilities commander for AASF#2. In addition, he successfully completed several military education courses – Warrant Officer Rotary Wing Aviator Course, NBC Officer Defense Course Aviation Maintenance Officer Course Aviation Basic Course Aviation Officer Advanced Course as well as UH-60 Aircraft Qualification Course.

Personal Life

David Leger was a distinguished retired Army officer. He earned numerous honors during his military service, such as being awarded with the Legion of Merit and several other accolades for outstanding contributions made to the US Army.

He thoroughly enjoyed traveling and discovering other cultures in his youth, and was an avid sports fan – even playing semi-pro baseball for several seasons himself!

Later he attended Kansas State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering before serving with the Kansas National Guard as a pilot.

After an impressive aviation career, he returned to the US Army as Chief Warrant Officer 2. While serving, he held numerous command and staff positions including: Aviation Unit Maintenance Platoon Leader; Company Operations Officer; Commander of AASF#2, 35th Division Aviation Officer, 108th Aviation Battalion Executive Officer as well as 1st Battalion 108th Aviation Logistics Officer.

As Chairman of Brookfield Asset Management – which specialises in real estate, infrastructure, private equity and renewable power investments – he has built up an impressive fortune.
