David Eichelberger was born in Roanoke, Virginia and discovered functional ceramics while attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Upon completion of his degree program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he earned both a B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees.
Eichelberger’s clay work displays an exquisite sense of design and meditation. Subtle markings convey a focused intent, while atmospheric firing brings out subtle variations in color and texture.
Early Life and Education
David Eichelberger was born in Roanoke, Virginia and studied at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University where he became fascinated with functional ceramics.
After graduation, he worked at Santa Fe Clay Company in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Following that he spent some time in The EnergyXchange’s ceramics residency program in Burnsville, North Carolina before earning an MFA from University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
He taught at several schools and operated TWO-ONE Ceramics with his wife, artist Elisa DiFeo. His handcrafted works are created using the pinching technique and often feature red terracotta clay. His pieces have been displayed in galleries nationwide; he has won numerous awards for his artwork. Currently living and working in Floyd, Virginia, he continues to pursue his passion.
Professional Career
Eichelberger has achieved great success during his professional career, winning four PGA events. As a member of the Champions Tour, he earned an estimated $700,000 in prize money during this time.
Eichelberger recently won the Aloha Section PGA Professional Championship at Honolulu Country Club and received an exemption to next year’s Sony Open in Hawaii. Furthermore, his runner-up finish earned him a place in the national Section Professional Championship to be held next summer in Pennsylvania, his home state.
David Eichelberger earned his MFA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has taught at Santa Fe Clay in New Mexico, ExergyXchange in Burnsville, NC, Appalachian Center for Craft (TN) and Penland School of Crafts. His primary scientific interests lie in optoelectronics, electronic engineering and integrated circuit design. His work in optoelectronics focuses on high density sensors – an important aspect of Optoelectronics and Integrated circuit research.

He is currently a resident artist at the Penland School of Craft in North Carolina and co-owner of TWO-ONE Ceramics in Brattleboro, Vermont, where he collaborates with his wife Elisa DiFeo to design, prototype and manufacture small runs of ceramics for designers.
He was a truly happy individual who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially hunting and fishing with his sons Andrew and Daniel. He was especially proud to watch them graduate college and walk their daughter Kayla down the aisle during her wedding ceremony. All who knew him will deeply miss him.
