David Coaxum, Attorney at Law
David Coaxum is a member of Gordon Feinblatt LLC’s family law and litigation teams. With extensive experience in negotiating, settling, and litigating complex domestic matters.
He represents clients throughout Baltimore City, Howard County, Prince George’s County and Anne Arundel County. Additionally, he serves on Maryland’s Attorney Grievance Commission which ensures lawyers uphold their professional obligations.
Early Life and Education
David Coaxum worked hard during his school years to achieve success. After graduating from Robert Smalls High School in 1952, he joined the United States Navy and served on ships throughout the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas. Upon retirement from the service, David began teaching. Additionally, he was active with organizations such as American Legion, Masons & Shriners, and Omega Psi Phi fraternity.
David Coaxum is passionate about improving the quality of life in his community. He serves on several advisory boards in Savannah, Georgia that focus on youth and young adults’ wellbeing. Furthermore, he advocates for at-risk youth and serves as a mentor to others. Additionally, David is an active member of both International Longshoreman’s Association and his church.
David Coaxum is an attorney specializing in Family Law matters. He also has extensive knowledge of Civil Litigation and Business Transactional matters. This past spring, David joined the 60-lawyer Baltimore firm Gorden Feinblatt LLC.
He specializes in handling complex domestic matters that pose legal, business and reputational risks. His areas of expertise include asset distribution, separation agreements, alimony and child custody/access disputes. With more than 25 years’ experience handling these cases, he was appointed to Maryland’s Attorney Grievance Commission which ensures lawyers adhere to their professional responsibilities. A graduate of Howard University and Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, he is also a member of both Maryland’s and District’s Bar Associations.

David is a member of both the Maryland Bar Association and American Bar Association, as well as being on the Maryland Attorney Grievance Commission.
He serves on the Hospital Service District Board and as treasurer for several nonprofit organizations. For his civic commitment, he has earned numerous awards such as McDonald’s 365 Black Award and Neighborhood Development Foundation Leadership Award.
