Lighty surrendered after hours of intense negotiations. Personal Life

Lighty was no longer shooting deputies when his ammunition ran out, according to the sheriff’s office. Instead, he returned to his car and called 911 before becoming angry over mental health treatment at a hospital recently received. A crisis negotiator then intervened and convinced Lighty not to shoot at deputies instead surrender without being shot at first.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister credits God as being responsible for no injuries sustained when 35-year-old Daniel Lighty fired 72 rounds from a car wash parking lot on Brandon Boulevard. Chronister says they will provide more details once their department secures a search warrant on Lighty’s vehicle.
