MLS Player of the Year – Daniel Gressel
Daniel Gressel is the president and founder of Teleos Management, a global macro hedge fund. Additionally, he serves as director at the Yankee Institute, a public policy think tank. Daniel currently resides with his wife Jennifer in Greenwich Connecticut in an off-grid home powered by an Yanmar mCHP micro Co-Generation unit which provides heat and power.
Professional Career
Gressel has taken advantage of being part of one of MLS’ top teams and playing for an experienced manager in Gerardo Martino, formerly an assistant to Barcelona assistant Luis Enrique. Furthermore, his teammates have helped Gressel make an impressionful first season debut in Major League Soccer.

Achievement and Honors
Gressel led Providence to a Big East regular-season championship and its inaugural MLS Superdraft First Round selection during 2014. Additionally, he earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors. Coach Stewart guided Mark Jecewiz, Joao Serrano, Liam Wilson and Danny Griffin to All-Freshman status for Providence FC.
Linguistics Professor Jaye Padgett won the John Dizikes Teaching Award this year in honor of UCSC’s longtime provost and Cowell College Dean John Dizikes, with undergraduate student Gressel selected as recipient for her $3,000 prize. Padgett chose Gressel after choosing from all eligible recipients in her field to select one recipient herself.
Personal Life
The Gressels reside in a stately traditional home that is entirely off the grid with eco-conscious design features and technology, such as a Yanmar mCHP micro Co-Generation unit for heat and power production. They also boast an infinity pool and an acacia wood fired pizza oven on their property.
