Early Life and Education
Daniel was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota and moved with his parents to Price at nine months. He attended Carbon High School before continuing on with Utah State University – Eastern, where he took many fine arts classes.
He was truly remarkable and will remain deeply missed in our hearts forever. We will miss him greatly but never forget him.
The Book of Daniel is an Old Testament book which tells the tale of Daniel, an Old Testament prophet persecuted during Jewish exile in Babylon. Daniel Alaei began playing professionally shortly after graduating high school, quickly becoming one of the premier live tournament players with over $6.3 million in career earnings. He won his first World Series of Poker bracelet at a No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw event in 2006 before cashing two Main Events that same year. Although mostly known for online cash game success, Daniel Alaei has experienced plenty of success both offline and in person as well.
On August 28, 2015, Alaei earned his fifth World Series of Poker bracelet when he won the $10,000 buy-in Omaha High-Low Split championship – joining Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey and Allen Cunningham in winning five bracelets before age 30. This particular event marks Alaei’s second win here – having previously claimed it back in 2009. His victory came against four previous gold bracelet winners who competed at this particular final table event.

Daniel Alaei may not be well known in the poker community, but his results in big-money live tournaments speak volumes: five World Series of Poker (WSOP) gold bracelets were won without much fanfare or recognition in 2006 in no-limit 2-7 Draw Lowball event for $430,698; then in 2010 when he finished seventh at $50,000 Player’s Championship Event and shipped $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Championship event for another $780,599.
Most recently, Allen Cunningham won at the 2015 WSOP in the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship where he collected $391,097. This win marked his fifth bracelet win at age 30 making him fourth youngest to do so behind Phil Hellmuth (9 wins at age 28) and Phil Ivey (10 wins at 39).
