Daniel was an avid sports fan who loved exploring the Sierra Nevada mountain area with its rivers, lakes, and rocking ridges. Daniel worked longterm at Buss Concrete.

At present, he works to form partnerships with organizations throughout Washington DC in order to assist students with finding entry level employment. He takes great care in learning more about each student’s career goals, industry interests, strengths, technical skills and personal histories in order to match students to entry-level employment.

Early Life and Education

Daniel Curtin was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He loved spending time with his three fur babies: Daisy, Willy River and Coconut and will be dearly missed by those he knew well.

Born in Ridgefield, Connecticut and attending Fairfield University. He then entered military service during World War II where he earned a Purple Heart with Honor award.

Mary Curtin was baptised on 11 February 1844 at Kilfenora by Denis and Honora Conole, her sponsors being Denis aged 36 years and Honora aged 38 years respectively. This couple immigrated to Australia in 1852 when the ship’s manifest showed they were aged 36 and 38 respectively; later moving back home, to Wisconsin, Michigan and eventually Florida with descendants living all around these areas; known for their contributions to Catholic education with scholarship programs becoming widely-renowned across Michigan, Minnesota and Florida.

Personal Life

Dan Curtin is President of Greenleaf Foods, a subsidiary of Maple Leaf Foods that owns brands such as Lightlife and Field Roast. With over thirty years of experience in food sales roles across numerous companies, he is no stranger to leading Greenleaf.

He is the proud father of two daughters, Meghan and Mackenzie. In addition, he volunteers as a basketball coach at both of their schools. Additionally, he loves reading new works on American history.

Michael Curtin is the son of Michael and Kristin Curtin and uncle to Nickey Crawford and Jack Curtin. Additionally, he has several aunts, cousins, and friends that live near Reno, Nevada. Michael enjoys camping in the Sierra Nevada mountains where rivers, lakes, rocking ridges, and beautiful valleys await his adventures in hiking or camping trips.

Professional Career

At his professional peak, Curtin was both a lawyer and author renowned for the publication of Curtin’s California Land Use and Planning Law which now in its 27th edition.

Dan served as both partner and of counsel at Bingham McCutchen’s Walnut Creek office from 2002 until his retirement in 2006. His extensive appellate case list included high profile, complex development matters.

Dan was passionate about protecting and preserving the Sierra Nevada mountains’ natural beauty, enjoying mountain biking, camping, fishing, hiking and kayaking – his favorite activity being exploring rock formations, lakes and riverbeds. Additionally, he found great pleasure working at his firm and enjoyed being among its people, becoming well known for his work ethic, humor and humility.

Achievement and Honors

Curtin has earned much acclaim throughout his life for his literary contributions; among them are authoring a 27-volume textbook on California land use and planning law and being honored with both the Jefferson Fordham award from ABA Section of State and Local Government Law as well as Daniel J. Curtin Lifetime Achievement Award.

He enjoys mountain climbing in his personal time, particularly the Sierra Nevada Mountains with their river runs, rock ridges, and breathtaking valleys. Additionally, he likes fishing, hunting, and tennis as hobbies.

Myrtle Rose, his wife of 46 years, his daughters Katie Hon, Mary Curtin and Carol Goodfellow; grandchildren; sister Kathleen Curtin; as well as extended family in California, Ireland and England are left behind to mourn his passing. A memorial service will take place in Auburn.

He worked longtime at Buss Concrete where he brought a youthful vibe into their maintenance department with weekly potlucks that brought in new blood! He will be deeply missed.
