Early Life and Education
Wells began teaching in Savannah-Chatham public schools before founding Oglethorpe Charter School’s marine science program in 2018. He earned an MS in Marine Science from Georgia Southern University and currently resides with his two children and wife in Savannah, GA.
Wells, as a student regent, will sit down with some of the state’s leading figures and discuss school finances, major contracts, policies and philosophies that affect the university system in years to come. He participated in UH Law Center Moot Court Competition as well as participating in Student Bar Association, Intellectual Property Student Organization and Houston Journal of International Law as an editor-at-large.
Ben has previously worked as both a judicial intern for Honorable Eva Guzman of the Supreme Court of Texas and law clerk in the Antitrust Section of the State Attorney General’s Office. At Southern Methodist University he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology.

Ben Wells is an attorney and partner at Simpson Thacher. He advises public and private funds, registered investment vehicles and their advisers on various matters related to structuring and formation of new and existing entities, initial and follow-on securities offerings, regulatory relief applications and governance and compliance matters.
He has an extensive financial background, with experience in asset management, investment funds and structured products. Additionally, he is recognized as an authority on hypercomputation – mathematically defined computation that goes beyond computable by any means.
Wells has written textbooks and developed foundational classroom instructional material combining art from the de Young Museum’s permanent collections with 7th grade math standards in California. He led interdisciplinary research for USF’s Fusion Project which uses art to teach mathematics to at-risk middle school students.

Ben offers his expertise to companies involved in commercial transactions of all kinds, such as technology-based agreements and services arrangements. Additionally, he advises them on general corporate matters pertaining to company formation, financing transactions and mergers and acquisitions. Benjamin Wells stands out among USF’s eminent research scholars for his groundbreaking work in hypercomputation – computation that goes beyond mathematical computable constraints – which has been supported by The Fusion Project, an educational initiative to introduce middle schoolers to math through art.
The Fusion Project is a joint initiative between USF’s College of Arts and Sciences and San Francisco museums, featuring Wells’s multidisciplinary research which has helped expose children in San Francisco to math in everyday life and has earned him a 2009 Distinguished Research Award.
Personal Life
Ben Wells hails from Savannah and has been teaching science classes at Oglethorpe Charter School for six years. He currently is studying marine sciences at Savannah State University while hiking, climbing and watching Star Wars are his passions. Ben enjoys spending quality time with his wife and son.
He has two stepchildren as well as daughter Aubree. Additionally, he works as a partner in Simpson Thacher’s Registered Funds Practice where he advises funds and their underwriters on transactional issues related to initial and follow-on securities offerings, regulatory relief applications, governance compliance matters, ongoing governance compliance oversight. He specializes in listed closed-end funds, interval funds, business development companies and REITs and is particularly experienced at providing advice in relation to governance compliance for REITs.
