Early Life and Education
Author of the New York Times bestseller The Hate U Give, Angie Thomas is an engaging keynote speaker who uses her platform as both writer and activist to encourage others to find their voice. Her writing speaks with authenticity, insight and hope, inspiring a film from Fox as well as an animated series from Disney.
Mike Evans became her first husband in 2014. They have two daughters together – Aria Lynn and Aliyah Nicole. Additionally, Mike previously had an older half-sister named Mackenzie Evans from previous relationships.
Amari Thomas is currently majoring in fashion merchandising at Kent State University and works at iMentor as the Senior Director of Operations where she oversees systems on both national and school levels. Amari possesses an inclusive leadership style who strongly advocates for scholar development and empowers young people.
Professional Career
Thomas was an integral player on UT’s defensive tackle unit and quickly built strength as the season went along. In 2021 he led all DLs in tackles (26), three tackles for loss (three tackles for loss, one sack), four QB hurries, and two PBUs – placing third in that grouping among DLs overall.
He excelled at pass coverage as well, showing his quick feet and athleticism can cover vast swaths on deep routes with ease. Furthermore, his superior spatial awareness enabled him to come down with contested catches at an impressive rate.

Summa Cum Laude honors are conferred upon students whose cumulative college GPA and St. Thomas GPA both exceed 3.90, who have been judged as outstanding by members of an Honors Oral Examination Committee. Students qualify if they enroll in five classes with all A’s earned and invite a full-time faculty chair from one of their major departments as an Honors Oral Exam Committee judge.

Amari is an energetic wellness advocate who uses heart-centered self care techniques to guide those looking for ways to make the most of their midday breaks. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations from Long Island University-CW Post Campus and is also an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
