The 90’s were the golden age of supermodels. Time magazine referred to her as “The Body” in its cover stories. Besides appearing on several cover stories for magazines, Elle Macpherson also starred in five movies, including 1990’s Alice. She starred in five episodes of the hit TV show Friends in 1999, where she portrayed Joey Tribbiani’s roommate and eventual girlfriend Janine Lecroix. Later, she also starred in the films Jane Eyre and If Lucy Fell, and she played a bisexual character in the show’s miniseries A Girl Thing, which aired on the Showtime cable network.
Before graduating from university, Elle Macpherson traveled to New York City where she signed a contract with Click Model Management. After appearing on numerous magazine covers in the 1980s, Elle became the face of Biotherm skin care products, and she also participated in a number of designer runway shows. Elle has been part of many advertising campaigns since then, including Victoria’s Secret ads and Diet Coke ads.
Elle Macpherson was conceived in Killara, New South Wales in 1964. When she was a little girl, her parents divorced and she moved to Sydney with both her mother and younger siblings. Her mother later married Neil Macpherson, a multimillionaire. Elle attended Killara High School and earned her Higher School Certificate in 1981. Elle briefly studied law at the University of Sydney. After graduating high school, her career began.
The Australian model was dubbed ‘The Body’ by the fashion industry for her athletic figure. Elle Macpherson has appeared in five Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issues. Today, at age 58, Elle Macpherson is focused on a health and beauty brand called Welleco. Elle Macpherson has also worked with Naomi Campbell and Farida Khaelfa, fashion icons in their respective fields. She has appeared on numerous cover pages, including in the Vogue Australia ad campaign.
